Bernard Leach

Bernard Leach (1887-1979) spent his early years in Japan. He attended the London School of Art, and in 1920 set up Leach Pottery with renowned Japanese potter Shoji Hamada. Together, they developed a reputation for creating classic works of simple beauty and taught many young potters the craft. Leach’s 1940 book, “A Potter’s Book”, detailed contemporary Japanese and Asian techniques and influenced a generation of American and English potters.
