Barbara Morgan, born in 1900, is best known for her photographic portraits of modern dance pioneer Martha Graham. She began her career as an artist and teacher of painting at UCLA in the 1920's. In 1935, she began to focus more on artistic photography, often working in tandem with her husband, photographer William Morgan. Her photographs chronicle an important period in the development of modern dance through the 1930's and early 1940's. Morgan's 70-year career also includes her involvement as a founding member of the important photographic journal "Aperture".
