Thomas Hart Benton
A major American artist of the 20th century, Thomas Hart Benton was born in Missouri in 1889. After studying art in Chicago and Paris, he settled in New York, teaching at the Art Students League and painting. His mature works, representational scenes of rural life, left him at odds with the European abstract style prominent in New York at the time. He eventually left, taking a position at the Kansas City Art Institute to teach drawing and painting. Benton is considered a Regionalist painter, and his works depict the everyday life and scenes of rural America in a Romantic social realist style.Artist Gallery (0 Total)
