One of America's best known photographers, Ansel Adams’ familiar black-and-white photographs capture the natural beauty of the American West. Adams’ landscape portraits of Yosemite National Park in California are particularly well known – a mountain peak in Yosemite was named in his honor following his death in 1984. Adams was also a technical innovator, developing the Zone System technique of exposure and development control in the early 1940s. As a conservation advocate, Adams served on the Board of Directors of the Sierra Club.
