Trevor J. Ritchie
Trevor started out in timber frame construction working for a company that built homes and estates using timbers salvaged from barns across New England. From there he went on to become a cabinet makerâ€™s apprentice building and installing architectural millwork and custom cabinetry for clients in the tri-state area and Marthaâ€™s Vineyard. Trevor is an RIT class of 2011 alumnus. He graduated from the School for American Crafts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Woodworking and Furniture Design. While a student Trevor received recognition for his work through various awards and distinctions:
School for American Crafts annual honors show 4 years in a row Alfred L. Stern Fund Scholarship Recipient Aaron Rosensteich Memorial Fund Recipient Finalist and exhibitor at the Niche Awards at the Philadelphia Buyerâ€™s Market Selected by faculty to show a table at the Annual Furniture Society Conference at MIT Wingate Fellowship Nominee - one of the largest awards offered nationally to art students. He was 1 of 2 graduating seniors selected from the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences Lived in Copenhagen and studied furniture design in Scandinavia through the study abroad program at RIT While in Denmark, he designed and built a chair which was featured at an Annual Danish Design Fair.
Trevor frequently exhibits his work in art galleries throughout the Rochester and surrounding areas. Most notably Trevor showed at the twelfth biennial Art in Craft Media Exhibition at the Burchfield Penney Art Center in Buffalo. At the gallery opening he was presented with a Purchase Award for his work on show and he is now a part of their permanent collection. After graduation Trevor was invited to enroll as a studio resident at the SAC wood program at RIT, where he has spent the last year designing and making fine furniture.
