Well known textile artist Karl Laurell graduated from SAC in 1950 (started 1947)and ran Plymouth Colony Farms weaving shops before striking out on his own as a freelance designer and textile consultant. He was commissioned to weave fabrics for New York's Cloisters and exhibited in MoMa's 1950 "Design for Use" exhibition. He joined the SAC faculty in 1953 with a national reputation firmly in place. He left RIT in 1957.
