Gordon Hope Grant
1875-1952. Gordon Grant’s paintings and etchings of boats and other maritime subjects was influenced by his boyhood sea voyage from San Francisco to Scotland at a time when such trips still involved sailing around Cape Horn. Prints of his paintings and drawings of the U.S.S. Constitution greatly contributed to the preservation of that famous vessel. He worked as an illustrator for “Harper’s Weekly,” Puck,” and the San Francisco “Examiner.” Even though he was best know as a marine painter, he created etchings and lithographs.
